THE
IMAGES ARE EMOTIONS THOSE WHICH ARE UNSEEN BUT FELT / UNHEARD BUT KNOWN. / THERE ARE
MOMENTS WHEN WE HAVE ACUTE AWARENESS OF EXISTENCE
/ LIKE THE FEELING OF EXULTATION WHEN
ONE STANDS ON THE EDGE OF A MOUNTAIN / OR THE TIP OF A CRESCENT MOON, / EACH MAN'S
PHYSICAL ADVENTURE IS UNIQUE / BUT THE ABSTRACT LANGUAGE OF FEELINGS / AND OUR REALIZATION
OF EXISTENCE
/ IS OUR SHARED EXPERIENCE,
MY
PAINTINGS ARE PART OF MY PERSONAL ADVENTURE. MEMORY SIMPLIFIES THE SETTING. / I NO LONGER
SEE THE MOUNTAIN'S EDGE / BUT / DO SEE THE FEELINGS IT STIRRED.
I
PROPOSE THAT MANKIND SHARES A COMMON REALITY / JUST
BEYOND
THE RANGE OF NORMAL SIGHT

BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Jody
Bergsma began painting as a child and has always looked to her imagination for her images. She established herself as a children's
illustrator early in life but as she grew so did her desire to stretch her painting style.
She
moved to Canada in the 70's and the exposure to Canadian wilderness impressionism gave her
a footpath to follow in her own artistic evolution. After
years of experimentation Jody has developed a second style, different from the children's
fantasy work, yet similar in its dreamlike quality.
Jody's
"Natural Elements" Paintings are inspired by her relationship to our natural
world. She travels yearly to new locations
and has used her studies of different native myths, symbols, and wildlife to help her
weave her unique vision.
She
paints twice each year in secluded three month sessions and completes between 75 and 100
designs each year for herself and her collectors. Jody
lives and works in Bellingham, Washington and when she's not painting she loves riding her
horses in the mountains and playing with her friends and family.
